Origin and Core Concept of the Lesson Plan


The inspiration for this lesson plan comes from a simple idea: How can we make emotional expression more fun and intuitive?

We all know that emotions can sometimes be difficult to describe with words, especially for children or those with limited language abilities.

So, I thought about using lighting effects and different colors to represent emotions, and combining this with Arduino programming to help students learn the integration of technology and creativity through hands-on projects.

Core Features of the Device

This device’s core functionality uses 3 LED lights to showcase different lighting effects:


  • Breathing Light Effect: The LED lights slowly brighten and gradually dim, representing soft, calm emotions.

  • Heartbeat Effect: The LEDs flash in sync, mimicking the rhythm of a heartbeat, perfect for expressing emotions like excitement or eagerness.

  • Random Flashing Effect: The LEDs randomly select from 7 preset colors and flash quickly, creating a dynamic visual effect.

  • Random Color Display: When the button is pressed, the LED will randomly display a color, gradually dimming and turning off after a certain period.




These lighting effects not only make emotional expression more fun, but also help students understand programming logic and how electronic components work through hands-on experience.




Course Design and Teaching Objectives


The goal of this lesson plan is for students to learn the following through hands-on activities:


  • Basic Programming: Use Arduino to control LED light effects.


  • Electronics Component Application: Understand how components like LEDs, buttons, and speakers work.


  • Creative Expression: Use lighting effects to help students visually express emotions.


  • Interactive Experience: After pressing the button, the lights randomly change, allowing students to experience the surprise and joy that technology brings.


The course is designed for students of various age groups. Even those without any programming background can follow simple instructional steps to create their own interactive emotion frame.

Practical Operation Process


In this course, students will start with the basics of Arduino programming, gradually completing the following steps. The entire process takes approximately 6 hours:


  • 🔌 Connecting Electronic Components: Learn how to properly connect LED lights, buttons, speakers, and other components to the Arduino board.


  • 💻 Writing Code: Use the Arduino IDE to write code that controls the LED lights to display various lighting effects.


  • 🛠 Testing and Adjusting: Conduct tests on the lighting effects through hands-on practice and optimize the code to reflect different emotions.


  • 🎨 Creative Design: Students can design a unique interactive emotion lighting device based on their personal style.
